straw into gold

straw into gold speaks to a seemingly impossible test: trying to buy a nest in contemporary Australia

Lovingly hand-crafted, straw into gold is both a statement on the current real estate market and a poetic charm for those trying to emerge into home ownership; the work requires a wall upon which to hang.

The work in progress …

Playing with opulence. One has prepared a blank canvas:

art making collides with ‘life with bird log’:

Stitching the final touches. Thinking I like the back almost as much as the front:

materials: reclaimed silk and upholstery fabric, vintage and gifted threads, woven metal, one of the artist’s dearly discarded wrist threads with metal charms, a broken shift key

medium: mixed-media

dimensions: H 11cm, W 9cm, D 2cm
